Sera, Rural town in Hiroshima Prefecture, Japan

Located in east-central Hiroshima Prefecture, Sera spans across 278 square kilometers of land bordered by Fuchū, Higashihiroshima, Mihara, Miyoshi, and Onomichi.

During the Heian period, Sera developed around Ryuge-ji temple, connecting to Mount Koya through rice trade and later becoming a post town on Iwami Ginzan Highway.

The town maintains traditional agricultural practices, with local farmers specializing in the cultivation of matsutake mushrooms, pears, tomatoes, and rice throughout the seasons.

Transportation in Sera includes access to the JR West Fukuen Line railway and major roadways such as the Onomichi Expressway and National Routes 184 and 432.

The town's population decreased from 30,810 in 1960 to 15,070 in 2023, reflecting significant demographic changes in rural Japanese communities.
