Kusu, Mountain town in Kusu District, Japan.

Kusu extends across 286 square kilometers of terrain within the Kyushu Mountains, bordered by Kumamoto Prefecture to the south of Oita Prefecture.

The settlement originated from Mannen village in 1889, gained town status in 1927, and incorporated the neighboring town of Mori in 1955.

The town maintains Japanese traditions through local festivals, while its architecture presents traditional wooden structures alongside contemporary buildings.

Residents and visitors access Kusu through the Kyudai Main Line railway services and road connections including National Routes 210 and 387.

The northern section of Kusu contains the Hiseidai Training Range, the largest facility for Japan Ground Self-Defense Force in western Japan.
