Azumino

Azumino extends across 331 square kilometers of plateau land between mountain ranges, with rivers flowing from melting snow of the 3000-meter Japan Alps.

The area derives its name from the Azumi people who moved from northern Kyushu to this region, establishing settlements during ancient times in Shinano Province.

The city contains 400 Dososhin stone deities along its roads, carved during the 18th and 19th centuries to protect local communities from misfortune.

The Daio Wasabi Farm produces 150 tons of wasabi annually, maintaining fields at a constant temperature of 13 degrees Celsius through natural spring water.

Azumino receives 700,000 tons of water daily from mountain springs, creating perfect conditions for wasabi cultivation across its numerous agricultural fields.
