Meigetsu-in

The Meigetsu-in temple complex contains a circular window in its main hall that frames the garden and creates a natural meditation focus point.

Founded in 1383 by Uesugi Norimasa, the temple functioned as a sub-temple of Zenkoji until the Buddhist reforms of the Meiji period in 1868.

The temple represents Rinzai Zen Buddhism principles through its architecture, gardens, and meditation spaces that promote mindfulness and contemplation practices.

Located 10 minutes from Kita-Kamakura Station, the temple opens daily from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM, with extended hours during June for the hydrangea season.

The temple grounds contain 2,500 hydrangea plants that bloom during the rainy season, plus a special inner garden that opens only in June and late autumn.
