Chouf District, Historic district with cedar forests in Mount Lebanon Governorate, Lebanon

The valleys and mountains of Jabal Barouk within Chouf District contain Lebanon's largest forest of cedar trees, forming a natural reserve.

During the 17th century, Druze Emir Fakhr al-Din II governed the district and achieved autonomy from Ottoman control, establishing a period of regional independence.

The population of Chouf District includes Druze, Sunni Muslims, and Maronite Catholics, creating a varied community with distinct religious and social traditions.

The district extends across multiple elevations from 600 to 800 meters above sea level, with numerous roads connecting to coastal areas and Beirut.

The Beiteddine Palace in the district capital stands as a 19th-century architectural complex, now serving as a summer presidential residence and museum.
