Gevangentoren, Medieval fortified tower in Vlissingen, Netherlands
The Gevangentoren features alternating layers of brick and natural stone construction, topped with a pointed roof near the boulevard.
Built around 1491 as part of the Westpoort city gate, the structure transformed into a city prison in 1610, replacing the former jail in the town hall cellars.
The tower stands as a Rijksmonument, representing the Netherlands' preservation of military architecture and coastal defense systems from the 16th century.
