Gosudarev Bastion, Military bastion at Peter and Paul Fortress, Saint Petersburg, Russia
The Gosudarev Bastion features thick stone walls and strategic defensive positions along the southeastern section of the Peter and Paul Fortress complex.
Engineer B.-H. Minich and architect D. Trezzini supervised the construction of this defensive structure in 1703, marking the establishment of Saint Petersburg.
The bastion contains exhibits displaying military artifacts and documents that detail the development of Russian defensive architecture during the 18th century.
Visitors can access the bastion through guided tours that include detailed explanations of the fortification system and its role in protecting Saint Petersburg.
A cannon positioned at the fortress fires daily at noon, continuing a tradition that started in 1873 to signal rising water levels.
