Stortorget, Medieval square in Gamla Stan, Stockholm, Sweden
The main square features merchant houses with red, orange and yellow facades, traditional Swedish architecture, and an ornate water fountain in its center point.
The square dates back to the 13th century and served as Stockholm's primary marketplace, witnessing the Stockholm Bloodbath of 1520 where Danish forces executed Swedish nobles.
The Stockholm Stock Exchange Building on the north side of the square now houses the Nobel Museum, presenting exhibitions about Nobel Prize laureates.
The square contains multiple restaurants, cafes, and gift shops, with the Nobel Museum entrance located at number 2 and offering guided tours in multiple languages.
Every winter since 1837, the square transforms into Sweden's longest-running Christmas market, featuring wooden stalls selling traditional handicrafts and seasonal foods.
