Saint Joseph Church, Catholic church in Houmt Souk, Tunisia.
Located in the center of Houmt Souk, Saint Joseph Church features a squared nave, six large windows, and twelve pillars with carved capitals and cornices.
The church was established in 1848 by Italian and Maltese fishermen under Father Gaétan de Ferrera, and underwent significant expansion in 1855 that tripled its size.
Ancient Christian mosaics discovered throughout Tunisia decorate the interior walls of the church, representing the religious heritage of the region.
The church resumed its religious function in 2005 after serving as a study hall and sports facility during the period following Tunisian independence.
Father François Xerri, who led the church for 45 years until 1946, implemented interior renovations in 1906 and remains buried within the building.
