Hatay Province

Hatay extends across 5,524 square kilometers of diverse terrain, from the Nur Mountains through fertile valleys to the Mediterranean Sea coastline.

The region changed hands multiple times throughout centuries, from ancient Akkadian Empire through French administration until joining Turkey in 1939.

The territory maintains populations of Turkish and Arabic speakers, with Muslim, Alawite, Christian, and Armenian communities inhabiting the region.

The province contains fifteen districts including major centers Antakya and Iskenderun, connected by highways to other Turkish provinces and Syria.

The Hatay Archaeological Museum displays one of the world's largest collections of Roman and Byzantine era floor mosaics recovered from local sites.
