Al Hudaydah Governorate

Al Hudaydah Governorate extends over 17,509 square kilometers of western Yemen, encompassing 26 districts and bordering multiple neighboring governorates from Hajjah to Taiz.

The region developed as a strategic crossroads between Africa and Arabia, transforming from Ottoman-era sanjaks into its current administrative structure following Yemen's 1990 unification.

The districts within Al Hudaydah contain numerous fishing communities that maintain traditional methods of seafood harvesting passed down through generations along the Red Sea coast.

With a population exceeding 3.9 million inhabitants and a density of 220 people per square kilometer, Al Hudaydah represents Yemen's third most populated administrative territory.

The governorate contains the UNESCO World Heritage city of Zabid, which features Islamic monuments including the Great Mosque and preserved architectural elements from multiple periods.
