Temple of Portunus, Ancient Roman temple in Rome, Italy.
The Temple of Portunus is a well-preserved Roman temple in Rome, Italy, dating from about 120–80 BC.
It was dedicated to Portunus, the god of keys, doors and livestock, who protected the warehouses where grain was stored.
The temple's Ionic order has been much admired, drawn and engraved and copied since the 16th century.
Today, it is located in the piazza della Bocca della Verità, near the Tiber River.
Despite its transformation into a church, the Temple of Santa Maria Egiziaca, the Temple of Portunus continues to stand as a testament to Roman architectural ingenuity.
