Zvolen Castle, Gothic and Renaissance palace in Zvolen, Slovakia

The palace stands on a hill near the center of Zvolen, featuring four wings arranged around a central courtyard with gable roofs.

King Louis I of Hungary constructed the castle between 1370 and 1382 to establish a residential and administrative center, replacing an older manor structure.

The Slovak National Gallery maintains exhibitions of European art within the castle, including works by P.P. Rubens, Paolo Veronese, and William Hogarth.

The castle opens Wednesday through Sunday from 10:00 AM to 5:30 PM, with adult admission starting at 2.70 euros and reduced fees from 1 euro.

The Royal Hall contains a coffered ceiling decorated with 78 portrait paintings depicting Roman and German emperors throughout history.
