St. Rumbold's Cathedral, Gothic cathedral in Mechelen, Belgium

The cathedral features a massive unfinished tower reaching 97 meters high with an octagonal bell chamber containing 49 bells.

Construction began in 1200, and the church received cathedral status in 1559 when Mechelen became an archbishopric seat.

The interior contains Van Dyck's painting Christ on the Cross and Renaissance artworks by Coxcie, Crayer, and the baroque altar by Faydherbe.

The cathedral opens daily from morning until evening, with guided tower visits available during specific hours through a narrow staircase.

The original tower plans intended a height of 167 meters, which would have made it the tallest church tower in the world.
