Mercat del Ninot, Cast-iron architecture market in L'Antiga Esquerra de l'Eixample, Spain
The Mercat del Ninot spans 5,584 square meters with a central nave flanked by three sections on each side, featuring large arch-shaped stained glass windows.
Established in 1893 as an open-air marketplace named El Porvenir, the current building was constructed in 1933 by architects Antoni de Falguera and Joaquim Vilaseca i Rivera.
A reproduction of the original ship figurehead that inspired the market's name stands at the main entrance, while the authentic piece resides in Barcelona's Maritime Museum.
The market provides online shopping, home delivery services, free parking with purchases, and operates from Monday to Saturday between 8:00 and 20:00 throughout the year.
Iron panels integrated into the brick structure contain narrow openings that create a natural ventilation system throughout the marketplace.
