Circ de Colomèrs

The Colomers Cirque contains more than forty lakes of different sizes, forming a natural amphitheater surrounded by peaks exceeding 2500 meters in elevation.

Charles-Joseph Colomes de Juillan, a French-born bridge and road engineer with Spanish ancestry, discovered this natural formation during his explorations in 1838.

The cirque serves as the source of the Aiguamoix river, which flows into the Garonne de Ruda near the village of Tredos, sustaining local communities.

Visitors can access the cirque through marked trails from Banhs de Tredos, with hiking times ranging from three to eight hours depending on the chosen route.

The granite landscape hosts introduced fish species in its lakes, including river trout and red mullet, while golden eagles soar above the mountain peaks.
