Royal Saltworks at Arc-et-Senans, 18th century saltworks in Arc-et-Senans, France

The Royal Saltworks features a semicircular complex of stone buildings with symmetrical structures surrounding a central director's residence within a 13-hectare park.

Commissioned by King Louis XV and constructed between 1775 and 1779, the saltworks produced 40,000 quintals of salt annually until its closure in 1895.

The site presents five permanent exhibitions highlighting salt production methods, regional traditions, and architectural innovations through the Ledoux Museum and Salt Stories.

Located 100 meters from Arc-et-Senans train station, the saltworks opens daily from 9:00 to 18:00 and provides digital interactive tours through HistoPad technology.

The facility contains thirty different themed gardens that integrate with the industrial heritage site, creating a connection between manufacturing history and natural spaces.
