Basilica of Our Lady, Cléry

The Gothic stone basilica rises from the Loire Valley landscape with its square bell tower and detailed architectural elements from the 15th century.

Following the discovery of a Virgin Mary statue in 1280, Philip IV established a collegiate church that English troops later destroyed during the Hundred Years War.

The basilica holds the tomb of King Louis XI and contains numerous religious artworks, including sculptures and medieval architectural elements from different periods.

The basilica remains open to visitors throughout the year, with special ceremonies held on July 11 during the Feast Day of Our Lady of Cléry.

The bell tower stands as the only remaining element of the original 14th-century church structure, surviving the destruction by English forces in 1428.
