Château de Montaner, Medieval castle in Montaner, France

The castle features a 36-meter-high square tower, multiple buttresses, and a vast polygonal enclosure made of red bricks and river stones.

Architect Sicard de Lordat constructed the fortress between 1375 and 1380 under Gaston Fébus to protect the borders of Béarn with Bigorre and Armagnac.

The entrance gate displays the coat of arms of Foix-Béarn with the inscription 'Fébus mé fé', attesting to the medieval architectural heritage.

The castle opens for guided tours and individual visits, with special medieval craft demonstrations including pottery and metalwork throughout summer.

The keep stands as the tallest medieval tower in southwestern France, offering views across the Pyrenees through its strategic architectural design.
