Vitskøl Abbey, Medieval monastery and hostel in Vesthimmerland Municipality, Denmark
Vitskøl Abbey features stone architecture with a preserved vaulted cellar, ruins of a former church, and extensive gardens across the grounds.
Founded in 1158 by King Valdemar the Great, the abbey operated as a Cistercian monastery for 378 years until Denmark adopted Lutheranism.
The monks maintained medicinal herb gardens containing hundreds of plant species, a practice that continues through the current garden preservation efforts.
The facility operates as Danhostel Vitskøl Kloster, providing 35 beds across 19 rooms, each equipped with private bathroom facilities.
The abbey houses a division of TAMU since 1992, offering vocational training programs for young individuals seeking employment opportunities.
