Christian 4, Bronze statue in Slotsholmen, Denmark
Christian 4 is a 6-meter bronze and granite statue on Slotsholmen depicting King Christian IV in riding boots with his left hand on his hip and right hand extended. The monument sits on a stone plinth at the corner of the forecourt, marking the entrance to Børsen.
Created by sculptor Hans Pauli Olsen, the statue was unveiled by Queen Margrethe on May 10, 2019, to honor the king who transformed the city in the 17th century. Its placement next to Børsen connects it to his role in promoting trade and urban development.
The figure shows King Christian IV as he appears in Abraham Wuchters' 1638 portrait, with his characteristic well-groomed beard and braided hairstyle. This choice links the statue to how the king wished to be remembered by later generations.
