Alutaguse National Park

The Alutaguse National Park spreads across 443 square kilometers of land, where bogs cover 54 percent and forests occupy 42 percent of the territory.

The Estonian government established Alutaguse National Park in November 2018 to protect the natural landscapes of the Alutaguse lowland region.

The Kurtna Lake system within the park contains over 40 lakes in a 30-square-kilometer area, reflecting the traditional Estonian connection to water bodies.

Visitors can observe brown bears from specialized watching hides, explore hiking trails, or participate in water activities across the numerous lakes.

The park houses the largest population of flying squirrels in Estonia and maintains migration routes for wolves, bears, and lynx between Estonia and Russia.
