Selz Abbey, Benedictine monastery in Seltz, France

The monastery complex sits near the Rhine River, featuring architectural elements from multiple construction periods between the 10th and 19th centuries.

Adelaide of Burgundy, the second wife of Otto I, established Selz Abbey in 991 as an Imperial abbey dedicated to Saints Peter and Paul.

The monastery transformed from a Benedictine institution to a Protestant chapter in 1575, reflecting the religious changes that swept through Alsace.

Visitors can access the remaining structures of the abbey by following guided tours that explain the architectural development through different periods.

The monastery survived severe flooding in 1307, leading to a complete reconstruction while preserving Saint Adelaide's relics in Saint Stephen's Church.
