Saint-Yved de Braine, Gothic abbey church in Braine, France
The Saint-Yved de Braine abbey church features a three-story structure with arcaded dark triforium, modest clerestory, and rib vaults throughout its interior spaces.
Founded around 1130 by Bishop Josselin de Vierzy, the church received additional funding from Robert of Dreux and Agnes in 1190, leading to its current construction.
The church served as the primary burial site for the Counts of Dreux, with numerous tombs concentrated in the south transept of the building.
The remaining sections of the church contain preserved architectural elements, including the original tympanum from the west portal reset inside the structure.
The building layout includes diagonally placed chapels that open into the central space, flanking the apse and creating an uncommon spatial arrangement.
