The construction began in 1333 after Doge Jacopo Tiepolo donated the land, with the church receiving consecration in 1430 following funding challenges.
Twenty-five Venetian doges rest within this Dominican church, making it a central location for state ceremonies and political gatherings since the 1400s.
The basilica welcomes visitors from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM on weekdays and from noon to 6:00 PM during public holidays with a 3.50 euro donation.
The interior contains the Giovanni Bellini Vincent Ferrer polyptych and holds the remains of artists Gentile Bellini and Palma the Younger.
