The Winter Line was a series of German military fortifications in Italy, constructed during World War II.
Constructed from November 1943 to May 1944, it was the last major line of German defensive works that completely spanned Italy during World War II.
The Winter Line has been featured in many historical and war-based movies and books due to its strategic significance.
Today part of the area has been transformed into museums and historic sites for tourists and history enthusiasts to visit.
Despite being heavily fortified, the Winter Line was eventually broken by Allied forces in June 1944.
