Āraiši Castle, Medieval castle ruins in Drabeši Parish, Latvia.
The stone castle stands on a peninsula at Lake Āraiši, with preserved lower defensive walls extending approximately 72 by 81 meters in size.
The Teutonic Order constructed the fortress around 1350 to defend against Lithuanian raids, and it remained operational until Swedish forces destroyed it in the 17th century.
The castle grounds contain an archaeological museum featuring reconstructions of ancient Latgalian lake dwellings from the 9th and 10th centuries.
The site maintains regular opening hours throughout the year, with guided tours available in multiple languages and an exhibition center displaying original artifacts.
The castle complex includes the only reconstruction of a fortified lake settlement from the 9th century in the entire European continent.
