Harlech Castle, Medieval castle in Wales.
Harlech Castle, located in Harlech, Gwynedd, Wales, is a concentric castle constructed atop a cliff close to the Irish Sea.
Built by Edward I during his invasion of Wales between 1282 and 1289, Harlech Castle played a key role in several wars.
The castle is associated with the Welsh legend of Branwen, a figure from Welsh mythology.
Today, Harlech Castle is open to the public and managed by Cadw, the Welsh Government's historic environment service.
The castle's gatehouse was once linked to the sea via a fortified staircase, allowing supplies to reach the castle during sieges.
