10 Downing Street, Prime Minister's residence in the United Kingdom

10 Downing Street, colloquially known in the United Kingdom as Number 10, is the headquarters of the Government of the United Kingdom and the official residence of the First Lord of the Treasury, a post which, since 1905, has been held by the Prime Minister.

The building originally consisted of two houses, Number 10 and a smaller house next door, Number 11. It was joined together in 1723 under King George I.

The iconic black front door of the Number 10 is the backdrop to many political announcements.

It is not open to the public and visitors can only be admitted by appointment.

The 332-year-old building contains approximately 100 rooms including the Cabinet Room, State Dining Room, and the Prime Minister's private quarters.
