Castle of Mey, Gothic Revival castle in Caithness, Scotland
The Castle of Mey stands on the northernmost coast of Scotland, featuring medieval towers, fortified walls, and gardens overlooking the Orkney Islands.
George Sinclair, the fourth Earl of Caithness, commissioned the construction of this three-story fortress between 1566 and 1572 on earlier fortification grounds.
The Castle showcases Scottish architectural elements through its Z-plan layout, incorporating a projecting wing at the southeast and a square tower at northwest.
The Castle opens from May through September, Wednesday to Sunday, with tours starting at 11:00 AM and final entry at 3:00 PM.
The Granary Lodge within the castle grounds transforms former stables into luxury accommodations featuring ten bedrooms with Scottish design elements.
