Howletts Wild Animal Park

The 90-acre wildlife sanctuary houses over 390 animals, including the largest herd of African elephants in the United Kingdom and Kent's only giant anteaters.

John Aspinall founded this private animal collection in 1957, which opened to the public in 1975 following the restoration of Howletts House.

The park conducts educational programs through animal talks, where keepers share information about species behavior, conservation, and breeding initiatives.

Located three miles south of Canterbury, the park provides accessibility features including flat pathways, ramps, designated parking, and wheelchair rentals.

Staff members develop personal relationships with animals while maintaining successful breeding programs for rare species, including western lowland gorillas.
