Clitheroe Castle, Medieval castle in Clitheroe, England

The stone Norman keep stands atop a limestone mound, overlooking the town and its surrounding hills from a height of over 100 feet.

The de Lacy family constructed the castle during the 12th century, establishing it as the administrative center for their extensive northern lands.

The museum within the former Steward's House displays local geological specimens, industrial artifacts, and traditional craft collections spanning 350 million years.

The castle grounds remain open daily without charge, while the museum requires an entrance fee of £5 for adults and offers free admission for visitors under 18.

The castle keep ranks as the second smallest stone-built Norman keep in England, featuring three original floors and corner turrets.
