Holmcultram Abbey, Cistercian abbey in Abbeytown, United Kingdom.

The red sandstone church measures 256 feet in length with six remaining bays from the original nine-bay structure and Norman arches at the west doorway.

Founded in 1150 by Cistercian monks from Melrose Abbey, the monastery received land grants from Alan of Allerdale and confirmation from Henry II in 1157.

The monastic buildings display Romanesque architectural elements with medieval stone carvings, inscriptions, and decorative tiles preserved in the church porch.

The church maintains regular religious services and displays fragments of historical artifacts, including medieval tombstones and stained glass windows by William Wailes.

The monastery became the largest wool supplier in northwest England and reclaimed substantial marshland areas near Solway Firth for grazing purposes.
