Newark Torc, Iron Age gold neckpiece in Newark-on-Trent, England

The Newark Torc consists of eight plaited ropes made from rolled gold alloy wires, featuring ring-shaped terminals with floral and point-work designs.

The artifact dates between 250 and 50 BC and was discovered by a tree surgeon using a metal detector in February 2005 near Newark-on-Trent.

The discovery of this ceremonial neckpiece indicates the presence of advanced metalworking techniques and social hierarchies in Iron Age British communities.

The torc weighs 700 grams, measures 20 centimeters in diameter, and is constructed from electrum, an alloy combining gold, silver, and copper.

The manufacturing techniques and design patterns suggest this piece shares origins with another torc found in Sedgeford, Norfolk, possibly created by the same maker.
