Little Cumbrae Castle, Tower house on Castle Island in North Ayrshire, Scotland.
The three-story stone fortress measures 12.5 meters in length and includes a vaulted great hall positioned on the first floor.
Built in the 16th century by Lord Eglinton, the castle served as a base to monitor and prevent deer and rabbit poaching on Little Cumbrae.
The castle reflects traditional Scottish defensive architecture, featuring characteristics similar to neighboring fortifications at Law, Fairlie, and Skelmorlie castles.
Access to the castle depends on tidal patterns as it sits on a small tidal island off the east coast of Little Cumbrae.
During the Cromwellian period, the Earl of Eglinton stationed his wife with a garrison at the castle before its capture and destruction by enemy forces.
