Grocers' Apartments, Historic apartment museum in Neustadt, Hamburg, Germany
The Grocers' Apartments consist of timber-framed residential buildings with cantilevered floors and ornamental cut cleats along Krayenkamp street in Hamburg.
Between 1620 and 1700, the Grocers' Institute constructed these apartments to provide housing and pensions for widows of deceased members of their organization.
The preserved apartments reveal details about middle-class living conditions in Hamburg during the 1850s through their authentic furniture and domestic arrangements.
Located near St. Michaelis Church at Krayenkamp 10, visitors should note that the historic building structure does not accommodate wheelchair access.
Surviving World War II without major damage, these buildings represent the last remaining 17th-century enclosed courtyard architecture in central Hamburg.
