Castle of Hostoles

The stone fortress consists of three distinct enclosures built at different elevations, with a semicircular tower standing at 599 meters altitude.

Built in the 9th century, the castle served as a feudal stronghold until the 15th century during the Remença peasant revolts under Francesc de Verntallat.

The castle represents Romanesque military architecture, with features including rectangular chambers, water cisterns, and defensive walls across multiple construction phases.

The castle remains are located between Les Planes d'Hostoles and Sant Feliu de Pallerols municipalities, with direct access through stone steps to different levels.

The main tower transformed from circular to semicircular shape, potentially due to earthquakes in the 15th century.
