Royal Courts of Justice
Royal Courts of Justice, Historic courthouse in City of Westminster, England
The Royal Courts of Justice features grey stone walls, pointed arches, and towers that rise above the Strand in central London.
Queen Victoria inaugurated this Gothic Revival building in 1882, designed by architect George Edmund Street to house England's High Court and Court of Appeal.
The central hall of the Royal Courts contains intricate stone carvings of legal figures and serves as a gathering place for lawyers and clients.
The Royal Courts of Justice opens Monday through Friday from 9:00 to 16:30, with public access to many court proceedings throughout the building.
The building contains 1,000 rooms across 3.5 acres, with 35 million Portland stone blocks used in its construction from 1873 to 1882.
