Kalwaria Zebrzydowska park, Religious sanctuary in Kalwaria Zebrzydowska, Poland
The sanctuary complex spans across rolling hills with 42 chapels, churches, and a monastery connected by winding pathways through a Mannerist landscape park.
In 1602, Voivode Mikolaj Zebrzydowski established the monastery after reportedly witnessing three burning crosses above Mount Zar, leading to the sanctuary's foundation.
The site combines devotion to the Passion of Christ and Virgin Mary, hosting annual reenactments of the Stations of the Cross during Holy Week.
The Bernardine Monastery maintains regular mass schedules and confession times, with separate winter and summer operating hours for visiting pilgrims.
The sanctuary received UNESCO World Heritage status in 1999 for its architectural ensemble that replicates the topography of Jerusalem in Polish landscape.
