Statue of Mahatma Gandhi, Bronze statue in Tavistock Square, United Kingdom
The bronze statue depicts Mahatma Gandhi standing with traditional Indian attire, measuring nine feet in height on its Grade II listed pedestal.
Created by sculptor Fredda Brilliant in 1968, this statue represents the first permanent memorial to Gandhi installed in a London public space.
The statue serves as a central gathering point for annual ceremonies celebrating Indian independence and non-violent resistance movements.
Visitors can access the statue through multiple entrances to Tavistock Square, with wheelchair paths leading directly to the monument.
The statue base contains soil from three locations in India: Porbandar, Sabarmati, and Rajghat, connecting London to Gandhi's life journey.
