South Tangerang

South Tangerang is an administrative city in Banten province on the island of Java, located west of the national capital. The municipality consists of seven districts with different residential neighborhoods, commercial zones, and local markets.

The area belonged to a larger administrative district until the early 21st century and became an independent municipality in 2008. The decision followed the growth of planned settlements and the rising number of residents in the western suburbs.

The name reflects its position south of the older city and marks the geographic division of the region. Commuters and families use the residential areas as a base for trips to the capital or as a quieter alternative to the center.

Visitors arrive by expressways or commuter trains that connect several districts with the center. Accommodations and shopping options are found in the larger districts, while smaller neighborhoods have a more residential character.

Some of the newer housing estates were built according to urban planning concepts and attract families who want to live outside the capital. Land prices in these neighborhoods are among the highest in the metropolitan area.
