Blackstone Building, Historic commercial building in Broadway Theater District, Los Angeles, United States.
The six-story Beaux Arts structure at 901 South Broadway features large windows with multi-paned sidelights, a denticulated cornice, and decorative fluted corbels.
Nathaniel Blackstone established the department store in 1895, and architect John B. Parkinson designed this permanent location, completed in 1916 for $500,000.
The building earned recognition as Los Angeles Historic-Cultural Monument number 765 in 2002, preserving its architectural legacy for future generations.
The structure now contains 82 residential apartments with ground-floor retail spaces and includes an underground parking facility for residents.
The building appeared in the 1923 silent film Safety Last, providing the setting for a notable climbing sequence.
