Haydnsaal, concert hall in Esterhazy Castle, Eisenstadt, Austria

Haydnsaal is a concert hall located within Esterházy Palace in Eisenstadt and serves as a venue for classical music and cultural performances. The room features stone and wooden walls decorated with paintings and sculptures, along with acoustics that carry sound clearly and richly.

The hall was built in the late 1600s as a baroque ballroom within Esterházy Palace, commissioned by Prince Paul Esterházy. Over time it was redesigned in classical and neoclassical styles, yet maintained its exceptional sound quality.

The hall is named after composer Joseph Haydn, who worked for the Esterházy family and performed his works here for many years. His presence shaped the place as a center for classical music that continues to matter to visitors today.

The hall is easy to reach by car, train, or bus, with parking available nearby for visitors. You can explore the venue at your own pace or join a guided tour to learn about its history and rooms.

Legend has it that Haydn suggested removing a stone floor to improve the acoustics, a story still told by visitors today. Whether or not this actually happened, the hall's exceptional sound quality remains its defining feature.
