Orval Abbey, Trappist monastery in Florenville, Belgium.

The monastery complex includes both medieval ruins and modern buildings nestled within the dense Ardennes forest near the French border.

Founded in 1070 by Italian monks, the abbey was destroyed during the French Revolution in 1793 and rebuilt in the 20th century.

The monastery produces Orval beer and cheese using traditional methods, maintaining centuries-old Trappist brewing and cheesemaking traditions.

Visitors can explore the museum and medieval ruins daily, with winter hours from 10:30 to 17:30 and extended summer hours from 9:30 to 18:30.

The monastery's emblem features a fish holding a ring, referencing the legend of Countess Matilda who found her lost wedding ring returned by a trout.
