Saint Martin's Cathedral, Gothic cathedral in Ieper, Belgium
The 102-meter-tall stone cathedral features a central nave, two side aisles, pointed arches, and large stained glass windows in Brabantine Gothic style.
Construction of Saint Martin's Cathedral began in 1230 on the site of a previous Romanesque church, reaching completion in 1370 under local master builders.
The cathedral houses the tomb of Cornelius Jansen, the bishop who initiated the theological movement Jansenism during his service from 1635 to 1638.
Visitors can access the cathedral through its main entrance on Sint-Maartensplein, with guided tours available in multiple languages throughout the week.
The cathedral underwent complete reconstruction between 1922 and 1930 after World War I destruction, following original medieval plans with an enhanced spire height.
