Langerbrugge Power Plant, Industrial heritage site in Ghent, Belgium.
The Langerbrugge Power Plant features a 102-meter chimney and stands as a primary example of early 20th-century industrial architecture in the Ghent harbor area.
Baron Floris Van Loo established the power station in 1911, which began operations in 1914 to support the growing industrial needs of the Ghent harbor region.
The facility included the Museum Energeia from 1986 to 2000, displaying steam engines, turbines, and documents that chronicled Belgium's energy sector development.
The power plant ceased main operations in 2001, yet a section continues to supply electricity to neighboring industrial facilities in the Ghent harbor area.
The residential neighborhood of Herryville was constructed near the power plant in the 1920s to house plant managers and workers in coordinated architectural designs.
