Lelchytsy, Administrative district in Gomel Region, Belarus
The Lelchytsy district covers 3,221 square kilometers of land characterized by forests and marshes along the Ubort River near the Ukrainian border.
German forces occupied Lelchytsy in August 1941, leading to systematic executions of Jewish residents through 1942 during World War II.
The district contains 73 villages distributed across twelve rural councils, with a population that identifies as 96.8 percent Belarusian according to census data.
Located 251 kilometers southwest of Gomel, Lelchytsy functions as both an urban settlement and the administrative center for the surrounding district.
Between 1986 and 1999, approximately 650 residents relocated from the district due to the effects of the Chernobyl nuclear disaster.
