Benedictine abbey of Mariastein, Benedictine monastery in Metzerlen-Mariastein, Switzerland
The monastery complex includes a three-nave basilica with late Gothic elements, a cave chapel, and various monastic buildings at an elevation of 500 meters.
The Benedictine monks from Beinwil assumed control of the pilgrimage site in 1648 and constructed the monastery with a large pilgrimage church.
The monastery maintains an extensive collection of musical manuscripts and prints dating from the 17th century to present day within its protected walls.
Visitors can attend daily services including morning prayer, Eucharistic celebrations, evening prayer, and night prayer throughout the monastery calendar year.
The monastery contains a subterranean cave chapel housing the venerated image of the Mother of Comfort, surrounded by numerous votive tablets.
