Farnsburg Castle

The castle stands at 734 meters above sea level, featuring remaining stone walls that demonstrate medieval defensive architecture from the 14th century.

Construction of Farnsburg Castle started in 1319 under the Lords of Thierstein, later passing to Habsburg barons who faced a siege in 1444.

The castle represents Swiss medieval military architecture and serves as an educational site for understanding regional fortification techniques and nobility life.

Visitors can access the castle ruins throughout the year and enjoy meals at the adjacent restaurant with its centuries-old vaulted wine cellar.

After a fire in 1709, the castle's stones were removed and reused in other constructions, leading to its current state as a protected historical ruin.
