Fribourg Cathedral, Gothic Catholic cathedral in Fribourg, Switzerland
Built on a rocky outcrop, the stone cathedral rises 74 meters above the Sarine River with its prominent tower and detailed Gothic architectural elements.
Construction of the cathedral started in 1283 as a parish church, and the structure was completed by 1430, with the tower reaching its final height in 1490.
The cathedral features Art Nouveau stained glass windows created by Polish painter Jozef Mehoffer between 1896 and 1936, forming a significant religious art collection.
The cathedral provides guided tours and welcomes visitors Monday through Friday from 9:30 to 18:00, Saturday from 9:00 to 16:00, and Sunday from 13:00 to 17:00.
The cathedral houses organs built between 1824 and 1834 by local craftsman Aloys Mooser, which attracted performances from composer Franz Liszt.
